The Huka Falls are located in Wairakei Tourist Park – just a short drive north of Taupo following the Waikato River, on Zealand’s north island.
If you are driving from Auckland, follow SH1 to Taupo then turn left at the Huka Falls sign to Huka Falls Road.
There is a good view of the falls from a loop road just off the main highway. A swing bridge, originally built during the Maori Wars, crosses the river and a path follows the east bank to various vantage points.
How to get to Huka Falls from Taupo
If driving, follow signs on to state highway SH5, heading north. Travel for approximately 5km, then turn right on to Huka Falls Road. After 1km you will come to a sharp left turn – this road leads to the car park from where you can access the viewing bridge. This drive will take you less than 10 minutes from the Taupo town centre.
